One of the best natural bathing places in Sri Lanka, the Nachchimale Stream is located in a mini jungle setting. Walking through the thick foliage, you will also pass many tea bushes before reaching the stream. “Madakada Aranya Senasanaya” – a forest hermitage is located nearby the stream. There are many bathing places on the way to it.

Bodhinagala Hermitage is situated at Dombagahakanda Forest reserve at Ingiriya. This hermitage was started in 1955 and it has few caves converted into “kuti” for meditation. The road to Bodhinagala lies through the tropical forest patch and it was a nice experience to walk to the hermitage.

Paravithota is a picnic and bathing place in Ingiriya bordering Medakanda Forest.  Due to its proximity to Colombo, this has become a very  popular destination for one day outings. It offers a haven of nature to bathe in the fresh-water streams.

A small tributary of the Kaluganga flowing over rocks creates number of shallow pools suitable for bathing in this area. With the surrounding forest cover, this has become a ideal picnic ground for many.

Pahiyangala Cave is a significant landmark to Sri Lanka due to its prehistoric archaeological value. As per the Archaeologists, the pre-historic men are said to have inhabited this cave 37,000 years ago. This cave is significant, as it is considered to be the oldest prehistoric settlement in Asia. to reach the caves you will have to climb a narrow and steep set of stairs through the jungle. It would take 20 – 30 minutes for you to reach the top of the caves. On your way to the caves, you will be able to see monkeys jumping from trees to trees accompanying you to the cave base. As you reach the base of the cave, there is a small footpath leading its way to the top of the mountain peak. You will be able to request the information from a monk.
